Blues back at Bellefield

Among the squad were new signings Andrew Johnson and Joleon Lescott, aswell as veteran defender David Weir fresh from signing a new one year contract at the club.

The players were put through their paces by David Moyes and his training staff today after their summer holidays. It is likely any ball work will be delayed for atleast a week as the coaching staff focus on rebuilding the players' stamina for the gruelling season ahead.

Everton's annual visit to an Austrian training camp looks set to be replaced with a visit to the West Country next week.

The team will be without Tim Cahill, Tim Howard and of course Nuno Valente who is still on international duty in Germany with Portugal. Moyes has admitted he is thrilled with Nuno's form in Germany and wishes him well.

The left back's return to preseason training with the Blues will depend on how long Portugal's World Cup lasts. Howard and Cahill however, are expected to return prior to Valente due to USA's and Australia's early knockout.
