Kirkby inquiry resumes

The Government inquiry into Everton's proposal to build a new stadium in Kirkby, which was held off during the Christmas period, resumes tomorrow afternoon.

The resumption, at 1pm, will look at whether the noise generated by having the stadium alongside the proposed Tesco supermarket would affect the residential area in Kirkby.

A report for the inquiry is set to be completed at the end of January and handed to Government ministers, who will make a decision before the end of the current season.

In the first stages of the inquiry, Everton CEO Robert Elstone stated that the Kirkby plan was the only option, but is it really? Another location on the city's waterfront has been noted on here, and the city is a big enough area to find another spot?

More news as soon as we get it.

The subject makes me dizzy. Kirkby would be my last resort, even after sharing a stadium.

I just don't get why the club think it's a good idea. Of course I can see it from the major shareholders own financial point of view. Ladle the club with £85 million debt, then sell up at massivly increased share price, never having to worry about the debt. But from the perspective of the good of Everton, I just can't see how Kenwright (who claims to be bluer than blue) thinks it's a good thing. Attendances would be massivly down. The vast majority of our support comes from the city, and forcing them to have to park a 45 minute walk (at least) away from the ground, is as unpractical as it is ridiculous. They expect 5000 people to cycle, are they ******** kidding me? Who the ***** is going to cycle. The buses and trains would be beyond packed, if they hope to get virtually all the fans in that way. It's not like Kirkby itself will provide more fans, there's only bloody 40000 people living there. If in 5 years after moving to Kirkby, we have attendances of over 15000 I'd be VERY surprised.

I dunno Mike, I just don't know. I'd like to think our board and owner are a little bit clever than that and have studied and taken into consideration the possible decline in attendances. There have been several occasions this year when matches have been televised and we have just about gotten 30,000 inside Goodison. There are a lot of people who aren't happy with this and have even gone as far as saying they will not go to Kirkby to watch Everton play. I do worry though. I'm not happy with the nature of this move or the standard of the stadium we are moving to. None of it feels right, which has led me to consider a shared stadium. I read a report on the KEIOC website into their alternatives to Kirkby. The shared idea they discussed included one stadium, with two villages, a red and blue village, on either side of the stadium, as well as two pitches which roll on and off, which would put the argument of too many games damaging the grass to bed. I want to stay in Liverpool, I can't bare all this abuse we get off them about leaving the city to them!

I'd definitely not renew my season ticket if we went there. I'd probably still go every now and then. If we're only getting 30000 right in the middle of our fan base, just how can they think we'll get 20000 more regularly if we move the stadium away from them? So fans who've always walked to the game now have to make travel arrangements. I'm a bit disappointed Kenwright seems to be putting his wallet ahead of the good of the club, he'd get a damn sight more for the club than he paid for it anyway, without farming us out to the cow shed attached to tescos in the middle of ******** nowhere. Prices would increase, and it would be harder to get to, yet they expect us to almost double our average attendance? I know you like Kenwright, and I'm grateful he saved us from Agent Johnson, but there's no way any sane man can think this is a positive move for the club.

It's not about me liking Kenwright, I don't the guy Mike, it's about trying to figure him out. My opinion on Kenwright is formed entirely out of what I see and read in the press regarding the club. On the one hand you have a guy who seems genuine, one of the more passionate chairmans of the league, a blue. On the other you have a guy who thinks this move will benefit the club...
