Arsenal join list of Moutinho suitors

The Frenchman has already brought in Samir Nasri as Aleksandr Hleb's replacement after the former Stuttgart midfielder departed for Barcelona.

Reports suggest Wenger may be willing to rival David Moyes' bid for Portuguese starlet Joao Moutinho, who tops Everton's list of wanted players.

Roughly translated, the article which appeared on Correio da Manha's website says, 'Arsenal have joined Everton in a host of clubs interested in Joao Moutinho.'

'Without the funds to pay for Sporting's Miguel Veloso, Arsenal are to study other options, with Moutinho topping the list.'

The article goes on to say that a stumbling block may be that Wenger has already spent the 15 million euros received for Hleb on new recruit Samir Nasri, and so far, Everton are the only team to officially register an interest in the player with a 15 million euro bid.

Other teams may be interested too, according to Correio da Manha, so Everton will have to move fast for the player, who has already declared an interest in moving to Goodison Park.

Hmm well there was always going to be this issue if he is in fact as good as people make him out to be. We'll just have to work harder to tie this up and convince him of where he should be next season. Of course the Arsenal interest is complete speculation. If it did become concrete it would be a major blow to our hopes.

just a rumour he's never gonna buy moutinho he's too expensive for mr.wenger to buy it'd be better if we'd sign him as a replacement for mr.Lampard he's lot similar to lampard in playing and is lot younger but there'd be too much Portuguese in our team which not good i think
Bikuda
oh sorry i thought this was chelsea board mah mistake

hehe.... :DD::D I think that Moutinho is too estimate

He'd be a good signing for Everton. I think Arsenal are more interested in Veloso, and I don't think Arsene Wenger is on as tight a budget as reported- if he wants Veloso he'll sigh him.

wenger has funds but will only part with them if he thinks the player is the dogs nuts. He has other good midfielders and would only buy if he can find better players.

I think he'd be a really ambitious signing for us and I hope it comes off. If he is as good as people say he is, and i must admit ive not seen him much, then he'd be a great signing.

Darren Bent nfs lads! think about it we need at least 1 striker at the club you know!?
HuddersfieldYiddo
We do know, we've only got 1 ourselves for the Blackburn game now AJ is off!
EvertonMike
This would be typical. All of our fannying around and reluctance to make a bid will ultimately be our downfall and someone else will step in and take him away from under our noses. I'm so fed up it's untrue. Why on earth does it take so sodding long to do anything at Everton? We've known since before last season finished where we need strengthening. It was no real secret that Carsley was going to leave. It was also very apparent that AJ wasn't cutting the mustard and we needed to sign someone else. As for Fulham, we should tell them to f*$k off now. They've had their chance. The days of bartering are past. His knee is fine. We haven't got time to properly bed in another striker so keep him till Xmas and see how he does. And why, since we openly had a bid rejected for Moutinho, do we have to wait another 5 months for the next bid to come in? We should have fired another one in straight away. And, I'm sure there's more than 5 or 6 available players that would improve the Everton squad, so why does it take so long to f$%king identify them and bid? We're having the wool pulled over our eyes big time here. I'd say our budget is about £10mil and we're desperately waiting to sell AJ before we can do anything. It's time they stopped lying to us, No doubt the bookies will be right and we'll lose one of the best managers in the world right now because we have no money.
Toffee Joe
What I'm told is Moyes does have a bit of money (not Shed loads but enough), however he knows he needs 5 or 6 players. The only way we can afford to spend £15 million on one player, and then go and get 4 or 5 more, is if we sell AJ. It's not that we don't have £15 million...
EvertonMike
The guys on vital fulham are reporting that apparently the AJ deal has been restructured so that a down payment of 5.5million is given with the rest in incentives.
toffeetower
I was told it's closer to 8.5 upfront, rising to 13.5. v unlikely to reach the entire amount, parts dependant on international appearances, as well as fulham appearances. But we'll get more than what we paid.
EvertonMike
It's disappointing that the 5th best team in England can only afford £15mil to spend. I've heard more than just a rumbling that we're getting £8.5mil up front so I think the guys at vital Fulham may be slightly off the mark. But, does potentially 5 players for £8.5mil sound promising to you? Cause it doesn't to me! Teams in the championship are spending more than that.
Toffee Joe
8.5 million buys you Pienaar, Cahill, Arteta, Osman and Carsley. Our midfield for the majority of last season ;)
EvertonMike
according to sky the johnson deal is 9 mil up front
GoodisonGladiator
Yes Moutinho is a very good player.
Paulinho
Very true Mike and I suppose I shouldn't be so hasty in my disappointment but with inflation being the way it is, and teams in the lower leagues charging more and more for their players, I don't think we'd be able to pick up the entire midfield for that much now. My main point really is, why should the 5th best team in England be scraping around for bargains all the time? I suppose it's just frustration in seeing all these so-called "lesser" teams with triple and sometimes even quadruple the budget we have. With Johnson going this morning, lets hope it sparks off some incoming activity.
