Everton pre-season confirmed

Training for David Moyes and his team will begin in earnest during the first week of July.

It will be the first pre-season to begin at the new Finch Farm training complex, however the team will also be using facilities in Switzerland during a brief training camp which is also said to include a warm-up match against a local side, rumoured to be FC Sion.

The Blues will officially begin preparations for the new campaign on the pitch with a trip to Cambridge United on July 19th, as so far this is the first officially confirmed friendly.

Preston North End will then provide Everton will an annual friendly match at Deepdale, as master and apprentice, David Moyes and Alan Irvine lock horns for the first time since Irvine's departure to take the reigns at the Lilywhites.

A trip to Nottingham's City Ground will then provide Everton with their final domestic-based pre-season opponents, before a trip to the USA sees them finalise preparations for the new season with training and matches against Chicago Fire and Colorado Rapids.

Pre-season will then conclude upon return on August 9th with a friendly against Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven at Goodison Park.

So far confirmed pre-season friendlies:

Cambridge United (a) Jul 19th

Preston North End (a) Jul 22nd

Nottingham Forest (a) Jul 25th

Chicago Fire (a) Jul 30th

Colorado Rapids (a) Aug 3rd

PSV Eindhoven Aug (h) 9th

I hope we have most of our business done before that trip to Switzerland. Having any new signings in that early would be massively beneficial.

As long as their in place by the USA trip, I'll be more than satisfied.

That would be the next good time to sign them, but having a full pre-season would be excellent. You're probably right though, most of them won't be in until USA atleast.
toffeetower
Agreed. I'd like to think that all our transfer activity will be concluded by the end of July. Seeing as we don't need to make wholesale changes to the squad, I'd like to think that is perfectly feasible.
Toffee Joe
End of July is realistic for the majority of signings. I'd expect we'll make one in the last week or two of the window as well though.
EvertonMike
Maybe a cheap GK? I'd be expecting all the major signings to be done and dusted before then.
Toffee Joe
Should be a good pre season game against PSV Eindhoven.

I'm not so sure Joe, I'd expect one major one to come in August some time. We realistically need 3 players good enough to play in the first team, and about 5 players to come in and out. It may not be a wholesale change, but we need numbers. Odds on us signing 8 players in 6 weeks? Close to sod all.
EvertonMike
True, if that is indeed the number of signings we make but I see it being somewhat lower than that. We've got defence pretty much sorted, and so long as none of the strikers are sold, we're pretty much covered on that front (although I would like to see another 20 goal a season striker). That leaves us with midfield and possibly another keeper. I can't see us signing as many as 7 midfielders. I also can't really see anyone else on their way out of Goodison except (hopefully) Van Der Meyde. And I don't see us signing a replacement for him as he's been nowhere near the first team for ages!
Toffee Joe
Let's presume we play Lescott as a CB for arguments sake, that leaves us with two left backs, two right backs and 3 centre halfs. That's if your happy with an aged Nuno playing. IMo we could do with another centre half. We need a back up GK, Ruddy is very good but needs a season playing regularly before he is ready. Up front I'm not overly happy with either, AJ and Vaughan are about as injury prone players as your ever likely to find. And Vic is a VERY raw talent, I'm not sure he's ready to fill in and start regularly. He will peak in his mid to late 20's, I'd keep him but he's not ready to lead a line. So I'd like a forward signed. In midfield we have four players. Which when our formation of choice is 4-5-1, is frankly ridiculas. We need a minimum of four midfielders, preferably 5. That would be my 8.
